Main Anna Hazare hoon..!
16th August 2011
Indore: People gathered at the Janjeerwala square on the evening of 16th after Anna Hazare’s arrest to support his fight against corruption. The rally started from there and as it moved towards the Regal square, more and more people joined in. It seemed like a page from the book of our Indian history has come to life and the forgotten revolution has sparked again. People were shouting slogans, wearing badges, protesting at full volume so that everyone could hear them. The most common ‘Nara’ written on everyone’s tees and caps was ‘Main Anna Hazare hoon’. The youth who never came together like this before until it was some cricket match of India and Pakistan, was today standing together, supporting a single cause and singing in unity.
No doubt each one of them was Anna Hazare.
Anna is just a representative of the people, who does not belong to any political party. We talk about democracy in our country, with democracy, comes ‘Freedom of Speech’. But when Anna used this right, he was put behind the bars. Is that really democratic? People were arrested in various other cities just because they expressed their support for Anna. Is that really fair in a democratic country like India? Each one of us faces the ill-effects of corruption and inflation every day. Stand for yourself and many others suffering out there. Become another Anna Hazare.

"Classical Music Is Not For Classified Audience"
Recently two great Indian classical musicians performed in EMRC, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya and Hitendra Dixit ji.
Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya is one of the great santoor maestros. He has been the recipient of numerous felicitations like pre Grammy nomination in 1997, excellence in world music USA, and his CD "Kirwani" had been acclaimed as the ‘Top 10’ in the world charts. Pt. Bhattacharya received his invaluable ‘talim’ from Pt. Rabi Bhattacharya, Pt. Dulal Roy and finally from one of the greatest musicians and composers of his time and Bharat Ratna recipient Pt. Ravi Shankar.
And then comes Hitendra Dixit ji who is one of the finest tabla players plus a soloist of highest regards and an equally skillful artist. He recieved training from the legendary Ustad Allah Rakha Khan and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Shortly after the mesmerizing performance, Tarun Bhattacharya spoke to our correspondent from Scribblers. Here’s a short sneak-peek of the interview:
Q. Sir, How did you discover your love for Santoor?
Tarun Bhatacharya (TB): " In my father's music institute I heard someone playing santoor when I was four. Since then I got attracted towards it."
Q. Don't you feel today's youth is far away from classical music. What are your views regarding this?
TB: "Untill the youth listens to classical music, how can they develop a taste in it. It is not like they don't want to listen, instead we receive maximum appreciation from the younger generation. It's we artist, who instead of performing in corporate concerts and classical organizations, must play for the youth so that this music permeates their generation. I believe that classical is not for classified people. Once we played among thousands of students and they loved it, this shows that the youth likes it too."
Q. What according to you, should be done to give classical music the place that it deserves?
TB: "What an irony! We have dedicated channels for animals on television but not for musicians and classical music. You find very few sections in newspapers that cover articles and information on classical music. Radio provides some specific time allotment for classical music but that too is of course inadequate. If artist and media join hands together then mass appeal is quick to follow."

Q. What is your organization Spic Macay, all about?
TB: "Spic Macay strives at bringing the music in front of the current generation as we in Spic Macay believe that music has the capability to bring out your inner self. It changes the personality of an individual, makes him/her more soft-spoken and kind. If the next generation listens to such music then perhaps we will have "Better future and Peaceful world". How can one remember anger when classical music is floating around?"
Well here’s from an artist who not only excels in playing melodious heart-touching music but also has wits and humour that surely guarantees to take away your hearts!
